Court 1: Joshua Paris v Max Basing

Joshua Paris squares up against Max Basing in his second match of week 5. Yesterday he won against LLewelyn Bevan and will be looking to extend his good start. Max Basing is playing his first game of Week 5 and needs a good performance if he is to get out of the pool!

11:10 PARIS BREAKS 1-0

Joshua Paris starts brilliantly! He races to 15-40 on Basing’s serve and doesn’t need a second invitation as he breaks in the very first game of day 2!


Can Basing break back? He has a break point at 40-AD to get back into this first set. Paris is pushed out wide and can’t find the corner with a big forehand. Basing back level at 2-2.

11:30 PARIS BREAKS 3-2

Basing can’t consolidate his good work as he slips up again! Paris turns up the heat with some powerful groundstrokes to get back to a break ahead.


Paris has the chance to serve for the set, but he faces two break points. At 15-40 he plays a textbook serve and volley, before smashing an ace straight down the line to get to deuce. Basing doesn’t lie down however and a Paris volley into the net means he is level!


Basing has fought back into this set and forces a tiebreak. He gets himself into a 3 point lead and keeps it to earn a set point. He nails it at the first time of asking as Paris pulls a forehand wide. Max Basing leads on court 1!

Joshua Paris has been struggling with an slight injury and has now called for the physio to come on, looks like he might be retiring from this one. Paris is continuing for now…

12:30 MAX BASING WINS THE MATCH 6-7 (3-7), 0-1

Paris is struggling with a back problem, but Max Basing isn’t letting up, he breaks serve with some great backhands. Paris looks in pain and he decides to retire from this match, giving Basing all 3 points. A great shame for Paris but he still remains in the competition for now.
