Our first women’s match of week 5 sees 20-year-old Eliz Maloney play Jasmine Conway on Court 2. Eliz Maloney is second in the table, only behind leader Emily Appleton who beat her in the final of week 4.

14:58: Break of serve – 2-5

Conway gets a break point on Maloney’s serve but isn’t able to capitalise straight away. A couple of points later, a misplaced slice gives her the break, on the second attempt. She then holds her serve to love to give her the chance to break for the first set.

15:08: Break of Serve 4-5

Conway can’t take advantage as Maloney holds before breaking back to get back into the set. A brilliant rally on break point ends with Conway missing wide left and Maloney getting the chance to level the set.

15:18: Break of Serve 6-5

Eliz Maloney is really firing now, with a break point at 30-40 she fires groundstrokes at her opponent who hangs on before hitting long. Advantage to Maloney in he first set as she serves for it now.

What a comeback in this set! Maloney outlasts Conway in a long rally putting her ahead by 1 set to love in her first game of Week 5!

15:30 Break of serve 7-5, 0-2

Conway has broken Maloney early in the second set! Great tennis from both these players on court 2 but Conway is able to break her opponents serve to get the early initiative in this set.

15:45 Break of serve 7-5, 2-3

Yet again Maloney doesn’t let a break against her throw her off as she responds with a break of her own. Not letting Conway have any easy points she is able to break the serve of Conway and move to within one game.

16:36 SECOND SET WON BY CONWAY 7-5, 6-7(3-7)

Maloney and Conway are into a tiebreak and Conway starts the better, racing into a lead. Maloney tries to claw it back but with Conway nailing the corners, Maloney cant keep up! Conway takes the second set. It means this match goes into a third set tiebreak.

Brilliant tennis in the final set tiebreak, a killer net-cord at 5-5 gives Conway the upperhand. In this kind of mood Maloney is a wall and the next rally is just as intense.

Conway is able to break down the wall to claim her first victory at the UKPL 2021. A brilliant performance from the 16-year-old who is able to haul down Eliz Maloney and claim two points today.
