Day 1 Recap: Appleton, Dunne, Moore and Hignett off the mark

Day 1 of Week 8 of the UK Pro League 2021 kicked off at the Aldershot Tennis Centre with wins for Emily Appleton, Katie Stresnakova and Katy Dunne.

The day started with an upset as Scott Duncan, on debut, defeated week 1 winner Joshua Paris 6-4, 7-6(3). Paris was off the pace early on and Duncan cashed in with some brilliant tennis to grab 3 points in his very first match with the UK Pro League.

Katy Dunne, returning from injury and not having played much tennis recently, looked impressive as she dominated Lauryn John-Baptiste 6-1, 6-2. Dunne clearly enjoyed herself on court and won six games in a row to take the first set.

Week 7 finalist Emma Wilson (Below) continued her good form and picked up a hard-fought 2 points against Holly Hutchinson. Wilson won a tight third set tiebreak to get off to a winning start in Aldershot.

Katie Stresnakova (Pictured below), a favourite for this week, dominated Tiffany William 6-0, 6-0. The superb result was easily the performance of the day, Stresnakova already looks like she will take a lot of stopping this week.

Elsewhere there was a debut win for Derrick Chen over George Davies and David Quayle won his opening game in his second week with the UK Pro League in straight sets. Despite hitting two of the shots of the day (Below) back to back Patrick Foley could not overcome Vijay Prashanth on his debut, losing out 7-6(5), 6-3.
