Day 2 Recap: Thrilling tie-breaks and a birthday win for Dan Cox

The second day of week 8 was jammed packed with thrilling tiebreaks, with 4 of the 10 matches going to a third set. This included the opening matches on both courts went the distance, Liam Hignett and George Houghton winning their matches after they went the distance.

Hignett’s match in particular was hard-fought, only winning by a 11-9 margin. His final shot on match point was more than worthy of winning the game as a brilliant passing shot earned him his first win of week 8.

George Houghton managed to overcome the fiery Oscar Weightman in three sets to get off the mark in this week’s competition.

Up next was the second round of games from Women’s Pool C and D where Emma Wilson (Above) made it two from two and ensured she topped her group. Her 6-1, 6-0 win against Daisy Chapman was among the more dominant displays of the day.

On the other court debutant Freya Davies managed to get past the stubborn Tiffany William in an incredibly tight match. It leaves William at the bottom of group C with no wins from her two games.

Dan Cox, on his 31st birthday, secured a dominant win over George Davies 6-1, 6-0 to mark his celebrations in style.
